Welcome to my blog!
I believe my passion for food and empowering others is written in the stars.
I’ve always been pre-occupied with food; fascinated (ok let’s say obsessed) with the pleasure it brings, the symbiotic relationship we were meant to have with it, how it connects us to others and our environment, and how it can be used as the greatest medicine, the greatest community builder, the sweetest way to show love ….or how it can be used destructively. So of course becoming a Holistic Nutritionist was part of my path. How lucky am I, to have a career focused on spreading the “wellth”; connecting people with how food impacts their lives’ and personal health goals, teaching the importance of eating local and seasonal food sources, getting to know our farmers, and helping people get more involved in nourishing themselves.
I’ve had several “a-ha” moments when it comes to food and my health, as I’m sure many of us have. But for me, the most life-changing moment was when, as a 20 something year old anorexic, I made a pact with my body, to start listening to it. My body was always fighting to survive, even when I wasn’t. I truly committed to understanding , and EMBRACING, the role of food on my health. There has not been one health challenge I have faced (and I have faced my fair share), that has not been directly impacted by my diet; food has been one incredible healer in my life. One of the key things I have learned, is that in every moment I thought my body had betrayed me, it hadn’t. My body is always doing what it can to protect me, I need to tune in, and provide the tools.
I am a Holistic Nutritionist and Culinary Nutritionist, Environmental Scientist, a vegan/plant-based, whole food recipe creator, a survivor of anorexia and restrictive eating, and a crusader for intuitive eating, body positivity, and using food to help overcome disease, mental illness, and as a tool to self-empowerment and true happiness.
Are you interested in food and your health? Check. Awesome, plant based recipes? You’re covered. How to optimally maintain weight, no dieting, no gimmicks? Hop on board. What about learning about your body’s unique nutritive needs? That too. Living with a smaller eco-footprint, meeting seasonal nutritive needs, reducing inflammation, alkalizing the diet, fighting a specific disease? Well, you get the picture 😉
I hope that Harvest & Thyme will be your virtual home to learn about how food can be used to be the happiest and healthiest you. Your place to find inspiration and ideas for creativity in the kitchen. Your place to see that dieting and restrictive eating is a recipe for failure and can lead to malnourishment, misery, and weight gain. Your place to sift through all the noise and trends on food and find a place of peace. Your place to find your way back to intuition, body wisdom, and a healthful relationship with food.
As a collective, we know that the state of our healthcare systems and food systems are in desperate need of an overhaul. Too many people are chronically sick and in a state of dis-ease, struggling with weight, not eating real food, and confused over the vast array of contradictory information. Sometimes it is hard to know who and what truly are acting in our best interests.
It is my sincere desire that Harvest & Thyme will become a place for you to visit (frequently) and to share ideas, complaints, and creative solutions about how we build a better, healthy “wellthful” community. And have some fun in the kitchen at the same time.
I’ve boldly said that this blog is “where food, environmentalism, body positivity and health meet.” I look forward to the conversation.
